| A reassuring visit with an Anesthesiologist regarding expectations and fears about surgery will be equally or more effective than a pharmacologic premedication without any side effects. |
| Therefore, routine premedication should not be offered. Certainly, premedication should only be offered by (or at the direction of) the anesthesiologist. |
