Non-Invasive Monitors

 | Automated Arterial Blood Pressure Devices Automated oscillometry has replaced auscultatory and palpatory techniques for routine intraoperative and early postoperative blood pressure monitoring. An oscillometric device such as the Dinamap automatically measures and displays systolic, diastolic, mean arterial pressure, and heart rate by sampling oscillations in the cuff. After the cuff is inflated by an air pump, cuff pressure is held constant while oscillations are sampled. If no oscillations are sampled, the computer opens a deflation valve and the next level is sampled for oscillations. A Variety of cuff sizes (the width should be about 40% of the circumference of the arm) make it possible to utilize oscillometry in all age groups. Too small a cuff or one that is too loosely wrapped around the arm may result in falsely increased blood pressure readings. In patients with low blood pressures, oscillometric devices may only display mean arterial pressures; and not systolic nor diastolic blood pressure. |
